New Year’s Resolutions, EcoSpheric-style

Yes, it’s true. 2010 has arrived full of hope and potential, ready to be filled with unbelievable stories of innovation, inspiration, progress, and simplicity.
Lest we wax too optimistic, it’s important to remember that there will be defeats, setbacks, disappointments and unpleasant surprises as well, but those simply serve as opportunities to learn and grow, as well as giving us perspective on how much we ought to appreciate the good times.
The EcoSpheric Blog has been in a period of flux lately, as I wrapped up one of the most stressful and demanding chapters of my life (grad school) and took some much needed time off over the holidays.
Now that the eggnog haze has started to clear, it occurs to me that this blog could use a little structure, (couldn’t we all?) and what better time to start than at the beginning of a shiny new year?
2010 Resolutions:
1. To post on a regular basis. No matter how enlightening posts may be, they quickly lost their luster when they are weeks and weeks old. For this I apologize. As a scatter-brained freelance writer, it is important for future goals to be realistic. Moving forward, you can look for posts twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays. (If I fail to meet this goal, you’re all officially invited to give me crap for it on Twitter).
2. To give the readers what they want (that’s you!). Because, in the past, the EcoSpheric Blog has taken a backseat to my other online writing, and has sometimes been treated as though it was my own personal ranting ground, it has been hard to build up a specific area of expertise. As fun as it’s been, this blog is all over the place. Moving forward, I’d like to hear from you, my readers, friends and critics, about the posts that you’ve most enjoyed, and the kind of posts you’d be likely to read and share in the future. (P.S. I make no promises that I won’t still rant from time to time).
Because all bloggers love lists, here are a few options I think might be interesting:
Foodie Fix (writing about cool, sustainable, natural, organic products, processes, and news as it pertains to the food we eat).
Product Reviews (info and opinion about green products that can make your life simpler, or are just plain cool. Sometimes solicited, sometimes not).
Mountain Top Removal (those of you that know me well, know that this is an issue close to my heart, and my hometown in East Tennessee).
Climate Conundrums (with the build up and let down of Copenhagen, I think we’ve all become just a little more informed about this topic, and continued info is important).
Good News (environmentalists have a doom and gloom reputation. Let’s change that with some regular news about positive change!)
3. To connect with more eco bloggers and experts, and encourage community through guests posting. Although we’ve had a few guests posts in the past, I’d like to see it happen more regularly. If you’re a writer with interest or experience in any of the above topic areas, give me a shout on Twitter or via email (bethbot52 [at] gmail.com), and share your ideas.
If you’ve got a second, I’d love to hear feedback on these resolutions, and please let me know if there’s a great idea that I’m leaving out. Let’s make this a great year in the blogosphere!
Much love and thanks for your support – Beth
