Reckless Resilience – Your Weekly Inspirational Quote

August 29, 2010
By Beth Buczynski

Over the past few months, my life has changed dramatically. Eric and I sold or gave away most of what we owned, and became full time RVers. Woefully unprepared for the challenges that would face us in our first weeks on the road, I’ve tearfully contemplated giving up and returning home in disgrace (dramatic, I know!) many times.

But we haven’t. One day at a time, we keep on keeping on.

Although our mistakes have been painful and expensive, we’ve learned so much already. We’re also starting to discover exactly what we need to be content — and considering that we’re living in a 26′ x 8′ space, it’s a whole heck of a lot less than we used to “need.”

Although we’re only at the tip of the iceberg, all this has gotten me thinking about resistance and resilience, and all the powerful experiences we would miss if we gave up every time people told us we were wrong or crazy. Here are some quotes about resilience to keep your motor running this week!

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
-Mark Twain

“The elevator to success is broken. You’ll have to take the stairs.”
-Joe Girard

“What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly.”
-Richard Bach

I have not failed 700 times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those 700 ways will not work. When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.”
-Thomas Edison, Inventor
