Ode To An Oil Spill

Editor’s Note: With reports from NPR and independent research organizations finding that BP is grossly (and probably purposefully) underestimating the amount of oil spewing into the Gulf of Mexico, it has become almost comical to think about the amount of damage being done on a minute by minute basis. If you’re looking for a wry smile on this frustrating Friday, we’ve got what you need. The EcoSpheric Blog is proud to feature an original poem (rap? environmental epitaph?) from @brick142. Enjoy.

(best recited to the theme song from Beverly Hillbillies)

Come listen to a story ’bout the Deepwater Ho’
A big rig drillin’ for some crude down below.

They were tryin’ to make some dough for the folks at Halliburton,
When the whole thing blew and the oil started squirtin’…
…into the Gulf of Mexico, that is.  Shrimping, wildlife habitats, white beaches.

Just a little while ago it was “Drill, baby, drill,”
Now everybody’s worried ’bout the birds it’s gonna kill.

Louisiana’s threatened by a mess of Texas tea,
So let’s blame the greedy suits at Transocean and BP.
…Evil corporations.  Probably wanted it to happen.  Bastards.
