Day 3: A Journey into the Land of Juice…and Fasting

The journey is drawing to a close!!!!
After 2+ days of denying myself solid foods, I can report a decidedly shrunken stomach, a feeling of disconnection from my brain, and a slight increase in my inability to focus. Since cleansing and not weight loss was my official reason for engaging in this juice fast, I haven’t been weighing myself (and, I don’t have a scale) but I will tomorrow before breakfast (!!!) and let you know if there’s any improvement in that as well.
Day 2 wrapped up pretty roughly. By the time I left work around 6 p.m. by stomach and my head hated me. But, I remembered some organic vegetable broth I had laying around, heated it up, and…delicious! I was so thankful for that broth- completely devoid of salt, veggies or any other sprucing-up. As an admitted sodium addict- this alone was a small victory that signified a slight detoxification of my palate (if nothing else) and an increased appreciation of simpler flavors.
Tomorrow I will start to reintroduce solids by mixing up a fresh fruit smoothie for breakfast and moving on to raw and then steamed veggies from there. All in all, I’m impressed with myself for enduring through this self-inflicted trial. The temptations were many, but, taking a cue from my amazingly-resilient body, I did not succumb.
Some of my online friends have been sharing their commitment to a once-weekly 24 hour fast, which when combined with regular exercise, is a much more effective weight management/detoxification method than normal dieting. I’m skeptical, but happy to say that after 3 days…I’m ready.
