Opting Out…It’s what all the cool kids are doing…
I would like to fancy myself somewhat of a pacifist (although my good friends might beg to differ) and there few things in life that infuriate me enough to consider writing snippily worded letters to the editor (see what i mean?) like receiving excessive and unsolicited printed materials. On my lawn, in my driveway, hanging from my doorknob….junk mail was only the beginning..
In my town, there are a couple of misguided “FREE” newspapers and other publications that like to pad their circulation numbers by hurling copies of their pedestrian rag all over the otherwise lovely lawns, sidewalks and driveways of unsuspecting residents. No longer is it enough to simply refrain from subscribing, no sir- now you get the paper whether you like it or not! Don’t you know it’s FREE?!?! In a town that calls itself “progressive” and prides itself on being “green” I find this situation utterly hypocritical.
Thankfully, others have been irritated before me, and set up clever little services to (hopefully) get us off the list once and for all. Read on for info about my favorite ‘opt outs.’
www.YellowPagesGoesGreen.org
Consumers can now opt out of receiving telephone books at www.YellowPagesGoesGreen.org. This organization will contact the publishers and inform them to stop delivering books. This is a free service for consumers. www.YellowPagesGoesGreen.org is working with state and local governments on ordinances concerning the delivery of unsolicited telephone books.
StopMyLocalPaper.Org
How many trees would be saved if our local newspapers were not mass published and distributed? You provide your information and we will send it to the circulation department so you can opt out. Please only submit your information to papers that you actually receive at your residence. This is an effort to stop wasted paper and help save trees in the process.

Their expert privacy team will personally file the appropriate paperwork to get you off (and keep you off) the 10 major mailing lists with one click!
